Sharon Wray, our newest member, was introduced to the idea of joining the DAR by Sharon Boyer.

“Sharon and I met for lunch soon after my husband passed, and Sharon suggested that DAR would be a good activity for me. I did a little research and decided to on the application process. After a few years of research and diligence on the part of Kathy Zehler I have now completed the process.

I am currently employed at UVA Health. I negotiate contracts and purchases of medical equipment for the medical center. When I am not working, I enjoy reading, knitting, sewing, crocheting, flower gardening and reading. My husband and I loved to travel and have been many places in the world. Since I lost my husband, I am lucky that I have family members and friends who want to travel with me, so I am able to continue seeing the world and learning.

I also volunteer for mission type projects when I can. I have served with RAM (Remote Area Medical) for several years. I went down to Grundy and Wise Virginia with the team from UVA. I am a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist church and I am involved with youth activities and community outreach. We have served meals at the Salvation Army and we give out food boxes from the Food Bank. At the district level, I have gone to Pennsylvania to Mission Central to work. I have now been asked to go to Honduras on a mission trip in October, but I am sure that will not happen this year. When I am not engaged in the activities listed above, I spend a good deal of time with family and friends.

I look forward to meeting everyone and making new friends as well as getting involved in DAR activities.”
